Class 150 (2 vehicles)

The Class 150 units were developed at the same time as the Class 14X "Pacer" fleet to provide replacements for BR's First Generation DMU fleet, starting with two 3-car prototypes built in 1984. They proved successful and went on to have long service lives, with two batches of 2-car production units delivered in 1985 (50 sets)and 1987 (85 sets). They were the first units of the Class 15X "Sprinter" family.

The class enjoyed 30 years of successful and reliable service as part of the wider Second Generation fleet, both operating lightly used services and strengthening other units in multiple formations. Eventually age and corrosion along with replacement new stock in the late 2020's brought about the planned withdrawal of the class.

Many remain in use on the mainline with others in storage so it is expected that more may enter preservation as time passes.
