Preservation Information
Experimental railbus with a body based on the Leyland National bus. Used for trials but not a sucess, being sold to Norhern Ireland Railways and exported there, being regauged to 5' 3" and used until December 2012, being withdrawn officially in September 1993.

In March 2001, R3 was moved to the Downpatrick & County Down Railway and put mainly on ststic display, although the vehicle did operate from time to time.

In March 2011 during a diesel gala the vehicle failed and had to be hauled back to depot. Later in the same year it carried passengers on several occations being hauled by a tamper rather tan under its own power.

It is believed that the last time the vehicle carried passengers was in November 2012, since then R3 has been on static display undercover but has understood to have been stored outside latterly.
