Tarka Valley Railway

The Tarka Valley Railway is a relatively new heritage operation in Devon who started up in 2008 with the aim of reopening the line between Torrington and Bideford.

In 2013 they gained planning permission to lay 300 yards of track at Torrington station fenced off alongside the Tarka Valley Trail cycle path and rolling stock acquisition started to gather pace.

In 2022 the railway started its association with DMU's in the form of a newly preserved Class 143 unit.

The railway is still very much embryonic and has not operted any public trains so far, however they have ambitious plans for the future reopening of the line with DMU's set to play a strong part.
