Preservation Information However ten years on in 2008 the two car unit was sold and disbanded, as it was the poorest of the three sets in condition. 50627 moved to the East Lancashire Railway where it was stripped of its mechanical components to aid the rapid restoration of Class 122 55001 during 2008 & 2009. 50627 remained in storage on the line and during 2010 & 2011 was stripped of its remaining useful parts. The vehicle provided a range of spares for the National Railway Museum's Class 108 unit which was returned to service in early 2011. The vehicle was always intended to be a spares donor at the ELR, so as expected, the remains were sent for scrap during 2011. The bogies were retained however, for potential future use under 51922 and/or 51562. 50627 had little historical significance and several Class 108 DMBS vehicles still survive, the class being one of the most numerous in preservation. |
