Aln Valley Railway

The Aln Valley Railway is a relatively recent scheme based in north Northumberland. The railway's mission is to reinstate the branch line between Alnmouth to Alnwick. Although the society had been formed in 1995, it was more then ten years later before a physical launch to the project. Due to development the original branch terminus at the latter was severed so a new base on the outskirts of town was constructed. Efforts were then made to press further and further along the branch towards the mainline (and junction) at Alnmouth.

In 2020 the railway joined the world of preserved diesel multiple units following the securing of two recently withdrawn Class 144 units from Porterbrook. Many second generation units were finding homes on newer railways such as the Aln Valley during this time.

A keen group emerged who brought both sets into passenger service and continue to improve and maintain them.
