Barrow Hill: Roundhouse & Associates

Barrow Hill is an ex-BR depot that has been preserved, the jewel in their crown being the surviving roundhouse which has become exceptionally rare feature in the UK. They have a collection of preserved locomotives of all types with supporting rolling stock, many of which are operational. Whilst they do have a short running line (that leads to a functioning mainline connection) that is used for passenger services on events, the site retains a more static museum feel on normal opening days.

Alongside the preserved roundhouse are several assocated organisations who make use of the remaining land and buildings. Some of these, such as the Deltic Preservation Society, are also preservation outfits but there are other sections dedicated to more commercial businesses. For many years the Harry Needle Railroad Company had a site and Rampart are also based there, contractors for rolling stock overhaul and repair.

DMU vehicles have not been a strong part of Barrow Hill's history, however vehicles can very occasionally be found here, usually for contract overhaul by Rampart.
