Rushden, Higham & Wellingborough Railway

The Rushden, Higham & Wellingborough Railway has been the home of the Rushden Historical Transport Society since 1984, and they operate from their base at Rushden station (purchased in 1996) which has been restored.

Their modest running line is located on part of the Wellingborough to Higham Ferrers branch line in Northamptonshire.

A relative newcomer to the DMU scene, they preserved a departmental Class 121 in 2010 and set to returning it to passenger carrying condition. In the meantime, passenger services were operated by steam and diesel locomotives.

2020 saw a new chapter in the form of two second generation Class 142 units which were controversially purchased for immediate passenger use on the railway.
