Vale of Berkeley Railway
The aim of the Vale of Berkeley Railway is to reopen the Sharpness branch line, in Gloucestershire, to passengers as a heritage railway, rebuilding some of the key structures that once adorned the joint GWR & LMS Severn & Wye Railway.
They have established an engineering facility based in the Old Engine House by Sharpness Docks, to restore locomotives, rolling stock and other items, and to serve as an initial base for the railway.
Latter focus has been on working on developing the original Sharpness freight sidings site, as the next phase towards a heritage railway operation towards Berkeley.
The railway was donated two ex-GWR Class 143 sets in 2020, which were both initially outstationed at other lines and storage locations.
In 2024, the first main items of rolling stock landed at Sharpness, including one of the 143 sets, so railcars hgave been a part of the railway's physical story from almost the beginning.
