Preservation Information
142030 was the second of a pair of Class 142 sets to be purchased for the Chasewater Railway who had been without a DMU, working under its own power at least, for over ten years. 142030 was bought by a group of volunteers as an addition to the railway's own 142029. Of the 96 sets built, 142030 was one of five sets that made it through to withdrawal with the least number of internal modifications or refurbishment work, making it a particularly "original" candidate for preservation. Its last home was at Newton Heath (Manchester) under Northern Rail before preservation and movement to the Chasewater Railway in January 2020. It became the fourth Class 142 set to enter preservation.

Before carrying any passengers, the set was split up and each half treated to a period in the shed to undertake restoration tasks and a repaint into North Western "Gold Star" livery. This took some time to complete.

Future Plans
The Chasewater Railway have indicated that after a period of driver training, 142030 will be used on passenger services on their railway.
