Preservation Modifications
None, other than the obvious fact that the cab has been sliced off the original (scrapped) vehicle!

Preservation Information
142056 was one of eight Class 142 sets that ended their days at Eastleigh Works for component recovery and possible resale opportunities. The majority were scrapped by Raxstar Limited, a scrap company active on that site. Several parts were reclaimed for the preserved sets.

One of the largest items however became the cab of DMS 55706 which was removed from the remainder of the vehicle and transported to the well known "Cab Yard" project, located at the Llanelli & Mynydd Mawr Railway in 2022. Compared to many of the other cabs on site 142056's was complete and in good condition so was placed on display almost immediately.

During 2023 some work to tidy the cab up was undertaken under contract with I W Locomotive Fabrication Limited. This was primarily re-cutting the rear part, roof sides and floor, which had all been left jagged by the scrapping and cab removal process. As part of the re-cutting, a railing was fitted to the rear of the floor in the former vestibule which was now open-air, with just the cab itself retaining its roof. During the saem year, the damaged driver's side window was replaced.

Future Plans
To maintain as a static exhibit.
