Preservation Information
51247 was latterly part of 101687 and was withdrawn from the Manchester area in the early 2000’s. Following a period in storage the vehicle was moved to the Wensleydale Railway as a source of spare parts.

In 2009 plans were announced to convert 51247 into a static café by removing partitions, seating and fittings and replacing them with loose tables and chairs with disabled access through the guard’s compartment. However this idea was not to come to fruition.

Between 2009 and 2014 the vehicle provided spare parts to two other Class 101 vehicles on the Wensleydale Railway and the body slowly deteriorated.

In September 2014, some final spares such as bogies were removed and the remains sent for scrap.

The largest items that remain of 51247 since it was scrapped in 2014 are its bogies, stored here at Leeming Bar and viewed from a passing train, 10/3/19. Chris Moxon
