Preservation Information
142020 was the eighth Class 142 to be preserved, its last mainline depot being Heaton in Newcastle. After withdrawal from service it was stored for a short time at Worksop before being moved by road along with 142019 to the Waverley Route Heritage Centre in mid February 2020. The move was to prove troublesome however with heavy snow leading to only three of the four transporters making it through after a delay of several days en-route. Luckily both halves of 142020 arrived together and they were formed back up immediately on arrival.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic the railway was undergoing a period of closure to passengers so 142020, whilst operational, was not used for passenger services. Instead, the set was gradually painted over the 2021 season into Tyne & Wear Passenger Transport Executive (TWPTE) livery on one side, a process which being done fully outdoors, was limted to the volunteer work days where the sun was shining! Finishing works to the livery were applied, on one side, during 2022.

By 2022, 142020 was running public passenger services on select open days.

142020 continues to work passenger services at the Waverley Route Heritage Centre.

Future Plans
To complete the repaint into T&W PTE Yellow on the remaining side, and maintain in passenger service.
