Preservation Information
142043 was the second Class 142 set to be secured outside of traditional railway preservation, persumably as part of the scheme named "Transform a Pacer" by owner Angel Trains which aimed to see redundant Class 142 vehicles reused in community roles in preference to scrapping them. 142043 was transferred to Sussex Police, becoming the 18th Class 142 to be "preserved", and moved to their premesis in September 2020.

Given the understandably closed nature of the training exercises conducted by the emergency services, reports as to the status of 142043 are few and far between, however it is presumed that the two car set continues to sit on a static basis and is used as required by Sussex Police.

Future Plans
142043 was always "preserved" with static community use in mind, so operation as a train ever again is extremely unlikely. Unless future reports prove otherwise, it is expected 142043 will continue to be used in the future by Sussex Police as a training aid for staff.

Ordinarily three police cars would suggest trouble, but this is the natural environment for 142043! 27/6/23.Mike Anton
