Preservation Information
142061 was the 20th Class 142 to be preserved, its last mainline depot being Newton Heath in Manchester. After withdrawal from service it was stored for a time at Worksop before being moved by road in Autumn 2020 to the Mid Norfolk Railway where it joined 142038 which had moved there in an earlier batch of disposals the previous winter. Despite being the second to arrive, 142061 became the first of the three recently purchased 142/144 sets to undertake test runs along the full line from Dereham to Wymondham, when it was used for guard and driver training during April 2021, during the railway's preparations for reopening to the public after more than a year closed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

142061 made its passenger debut in May 2021 when it operated a private charter from Dereham to Yaxham.

In Spring 2022, in readiness for the new running season, the interior had a deep clean, with the seat basis treated and painted. All the footwells were striped, painted and replacement lights fitted. Externally the underframe also benefited from a coat of paint.

142061 now provides all the second generation operated services on the Mid Norfolk Railway.

Future Plans
To maintain in service

142061 stands at the lesser used Hardingham station, the limit of passenger operations at that time whilst bridge works were ongoing. This was during the Bus Rally event, which is one of the weekends when the public are encouraged to visit the normally closed and privately owned station, 12/5/24. Chris Moxon
