Preservation Information
142078 was the 24th Class 142 to be preserved (in 2021). It was purchased tactically by the Wensleydale Railway originally as a source of spare parts and/or possible resale to further parties. Its last home was at Heaton (Newcastle) under Northern Rail before preservation and movement to the Wensleydale Railway. It entered preservation under its own power, utilising their active mainline connection. Its transfer brought the number of preserved Class 142's on the line to six.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic it was some time before 142078 operated any services, however in April 2022 it made its preservation passenger debut.

The set ran several services over the summer season, subsequently in the autumn it was sold (as per the original strategy) for a new life on the Weardale Railway.

142078 currently shares sevices with the first generation vehicles at the Weardale Railway.
