Preservation Information 143601, the pioneer Class 143, became the 8th of the class to be preserved after the Tanat Valley Railway secured two sets for its modest line. It arrived shortly after classmate 143616 in July 2021. Because the Tanat Valley had not yet reached a stage where it was offering passenger rides, 143601 was initially stored but kept in an operating condition. The railway recognised that the set needed some restoration work so it was stood down fully in 2022 to await the repairs. A period of storage followed with some mould and water damage being sustained by the interior. In December 2025, the set was sold to Pip Jones and brought under the banner of the newly formed Heritage Traction Preservation group. Immediate works involved deep cleaning and reversing damage caused by storage.
Future Plans Heritage Traction Preservation intends to oversee the ownership, restoration, and long-term care of 143601. Whether this will involve preservation passenger service or not is not currently known.
