Preservation Information
144006 became the first Class 144 to be preserved when it was driven (with 144007) under its own power from the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway (where it had been stored latterly by Northern Rail) to the sidings at Gobowen in May 2020. It had been acquired by the Cambrian Railway in a two set deal.

On arrival the two sets were stored servicable to await their use in the future. Almost exactly a year later, the pair were moved by road to the railway's headquarters site at Oswestry.

During 2022, 144006 was introduced into passenger services operating between Oswestry and Weston Wharf including the railway's recently reopened section.

144006 continues to provide services.

Future Plans
Longer term the Cambrian Railway have suggested that 144006 & 007 will be used as modern stock for a community service on a rebuilt Cambrian Railway in the long term future.
