Preservation Information
Preserved as a complete set 101678 with 51210, the vehicle was introduced into passenger service quickly at Wensleydale and was later formed into a hybrid 3-car using Class 117 59509. However due to maintenance sets were noted as often being reformed.

Extensive use of 50746 as vacuum braked hauled stock for steam locomotives was also made.

In 2006, 50746 was repainted into a non standard blue & cream, retaining its set number on the cab end.

In 2011, the secondman's side of 51210 was repainted into BR Blue.

In 2012 the vehicle was withdrawn from traffic and stored awaiting overhaul, which started the following year with bodywork repairs being undertaken on the number one side.

By 2014 the vehicle had been repainted into Blue & Grey livery, however progress was not to last and it did not reenter service as planned. New projects were started and 50746 was stored with an increasingly large number of other DMU vehicles in the sidings at Leeming Bar.

50746 remains in storage awaiting its turn for completion of works.

Future Plans
When resources become available, 50746's overhaul will be resumed, with the intention of the vehicle returning to use with partner 51210 as a 2-car set. The railway have indicated that they want to have a stronger collections policy which entails the departure of several DMU's. However 50746 has been listed as one of the vehicles that the railway wishes to retain and focus on keeping in good servicable condition.
