Preservation Information During the 1990's 52008 saw a return to service with a repaint into BR Green with 56047. After 2000, the set was made "pure 107" after the introduction of DMCL 52030 following restoration work. However the set's deteriorating condition meant 52008 was withdrawn from service in 2005. Its final run was in multiple with Class 117 set 51367/51402 for a Thomas weekend, 52008's duties from that point onwards being taken by the Class 117. The late 2000's saw restoration commence on 52008. In 2008, extensive roof and gutter repairs were carried out, the roof being needle gunned to bare metal and competely repainted. However further work was not forthcoming and the vehicle returned to storage soon after. In 2019 the further deterioration of 52008 was significantly reduced, following the building of a rolling stock storage shed at Boat of Garten, able to accommodate both operating and stored DMU vehicles amongst other coaching stock. However the writing was on the wall for 52008 and with no further restoration forthcoming, the vehicle was sold in 2023, along with partner 52030, and moved to the Keith & Dufftown Railway, the set pleasingly remaining in its native country. |
