Whitwell & Reepham Railway
The Whitwell & Reepham Railway is a relatively recent heritage establishment based, as the name suggests, in and around the station at Whitwell & Reepham in Norfolk.
The station reopened in 2009 and the volunteers have gradually expanded the site, buildings and rolling stock since.
In 2013 the railway took delivery of a geographically appropriate Class 100 trailer, albeit stored in poor condition, starting their association with DMUs, but this was moved on again in 2015 with no restoration work having been carried out.
That was not to be the end of the story however, with a Class 117 set purchased privately in 2018 for restoration.
December 2018 saw the railway carry its first public passengers in a DMU, with one of the Class 117 vehicles being used on Santa Special services. The restoration of the Class 117 did continue for a further 18 months, but sadly the association with the railway was not to continue and the set was relocated elsewhere in 2020 for the restoration to continue.
