Preservation Information
Little is known about 50987, but it is presumed that the vehicle was bought for preservation in the early 1990's (in common with most Class 108 vehicles) as part of a bulk bid of several Class 108 vehicles which were located at Peak Rail during the 1990's.

However 50987 was not restored for passenger use and was moved to the Midland Railway Butterley for spares recovery. This process was particularly useful to the restoration of unique Derby Lightweight DMBS 79018, as Derby Lightweight interiors are very similar to the Class 108, so the gutted shell of 79018 was able to be reconstructed thanks to 50987. The vehicle was subsequently scrapped on site.

50987 had little historical significance and many Class 108 DMBS vehicles still survive, the class being one of the most numerous in preservation.
