Preservation Information
50987 was withdrawn from mainline service in June 1992 and following a period in storage was purchased as part of a bulk bid of several Class 108 vehicles for Peak Rail, arriving in late 1994.

50987 was not restored for passenger use and after a few more years in storage was deemed surplus to requirements. It was moved to the Midland Railway Butterley for spares recovery in 1998 . This process was particularly useful to the restoration of unique Derby Lightweight DMBS 79018, as Derby Lightweight interiors are very similar to the Class 108, so the gutted shell of 79018 was able to be reconstructed thanks to 50987. The vehicle was stripped down remarkably quickly and the remains were scrapped on site just a few weeks after arrival.

50987 had little historical significance and many Class 108 DMBS vehicles still survive, the class being one of the most numerous in preservation.
