Preservation Information
In common with many of the single units, 55019 had a very short passenger career, being converted to a departmental vehicle in 1970, numbered 975042. Latterly used by Network Rail, by 2007 the vehicle was stored servicable and spent until 2011 as a spares vehicle at Aylesbury where the last of the depatmental fleet of first generation DMUs was being maintained. Moved to Tyseley that year to be stripped for spares, in a surprise move the vehicle was sold complete to the Llanelli & Mynydd Mawr Railway in 2012, and the vehicle became the eighth (and last) Class 122 vehicle to be preserved.

The vehicle had been heavily modified internally during its time as a departmental vehicle, so restoration work would be required before the vehicle could carry a reasonable number of passengers.

Due to limited resources, restoration progressed modestly, with the sandite tanks and generator (used to power the sandite equipment) removed to open out the interior for restoration. This continued until winter 2013/14 when work had to be suspended due to "other site commitments".

The railway has made very little in the way of restoration reports on 55019 over the past few years so it is presumed that resources are still not available and that 55019 remains in warm storage for its restoration to re-start in earnest.

Future Plans
To restore the vehicle internally and externally, possibly into green livery. The interior will be returned to original as far as possible but a compromise may initially be made. It is planned for the vehicle to be one of the railway's principle passenger vehicles when complete.
