Preservation Information
142011 was the 16th Class 142 to be preserved (in 2020). Its last home was at Newton Heath (Manchester) under Northern Rail before preservation and movement to the Midland Railway Butterleyin June 2020. It entered preservation under its own power, driven in multiple with 142013 (and a third set which continued south for scrap) to their new home utilising their active mainline connection.

142011 was purchased as a source of spare parts for 141113 & 142013, however the fact that it was fully operational allowed it to be used for test running at the railway during April 2021. It didn't however enter any form of passenger service.

Later the same year an unexpected opportunity to purchase a comprehensive set of Class 14X spare parts changed 142011's situation markedly. With the required spares now available for the sustainable futures of 141113 & 142013, the decision was made to keep 142011 and give it a future in preservation.

In Spring 2022 the set was moved to Butterley yard where some mainly cosmetic repairs were undertaken, followed by a full repaint into Provincial Blue livery and preparation for passenger service.

142011 made its passenger debut at the Railcar Gala in June 2022, becoming the first Class 142 in preservation to be fully repainted into a heritage livery and see passenger service.

142011 continues to operate passenger services at the Midland Railway Butterley alongside 141113 and the first generation vehicles.
