Preservation Information
142013 was the 17th Class 142 to be preserved (in 2020). Its last home was at Newton Heath (Manchester) under Northern Rail before preservation and movement to theMidland Railway Butterleyin June 2020. It entered preservation under its own power, driven in multiple with 142011 (and a third set which continued south for scrap) to their new home utilising their active mainline connection.

142013 was purchased as an addition to the successful "pacer workings" on the line that were already established through the pioneering use of 141113. However due to Covid-19 142013 did not enter passenger service, though it did several trips down the line and was maintained in operational condition throughout.

In June 2022 the set was "officially" withdrawn for more in depth restoration work to commence. With 141113 & 142011 both repainted into heritage liveries and in traffic, services were well covered enough to not require 142013 in passenger service.

The restoration progressed well and a boost came in Autumn 2023 when space became available inside the shed at Butterley. This allowed each vehicle to receive bodywork repairs, new window rubbers and a full repaint into as built GMPTE orange livery, the first preserved example to carry the livery once again. The restoration work came to a conclusion the following year, with the seating overhauled and cured of corrosion issues before a full reupholstery.

142013 made its preservation passenger debut in September 2024 when the set was launched at the annual DMU Gala which was also the Railcar Convention that year.

142013 continues to provide services regularly at the Midland Railway Butterley where it shares the second-generation duties with 141113 & 142011.
