Preservation Information
142094 was the 27th Class 142 set to be preserved, and became the highest numbered (and youngest) of the class to be saved from scrap. Its last home was at Heaton (Newcastle) under Northern Rail before preservation and movement to the Wensleydale Railway. It entered preservation under its own power, utilising their active mainline connection. Its transfer brought the number of preserved Class 142's on the line to nine.

It quickly became known that 142094 had only been moved to the Wensleydale Railway as an interim measure and that its proper home was to be the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Railway, who had been some time without an operational DMU. The set moved by road in May 2021.

142094 did not enter passenger service, the owners instead wishing to improve the set before use. Deep cleaning and repairs to rotten flooring were therefore progressed throughout 2021 and 2022, at the same time preparing the railway's safety systems to handle the new type of traction following the completion of the repair work. The intention was to use 142094 on winter services to reduce steam running costs, but the plan subsequently failed and the set was sold to a new, private, owner.

The new owner quickly moved 142094 to the Weardale Railwayin 2024.

Future Plans
The new owner is looking to bring the set into working order.
