Preservation Information Two months after arrival, 51990 & 52030 made a brief run in preservation in multiple with the operating set at the time, 52008/56047, but no serious restoration work had been undertaken. Some limited work was undertaken in 1996 including cleaning out the Sandite residue, and some welding was done to body panels with preparations made for repainting into green. Some mechanical repairs were also completed, but the project was fairly quickly abandoned. For ten years, 51990 was used as a store and source of spare parts for sisters 52008 & 52030, which were both returned to service. During the 2000's, the Class 107 fleet at the railway declined, with all the operating vehicles falling out of traffic and the group disbanding. The process was extremely slow however, with decades of storage for all the vehicles concerned including 51990, which by now had slid into a very poor state. The mid 2020's saw the group sell their Strathspey based fleet and 51990 was sold to the Blue Square Heritage Group, also based on the railway with their Class 117 set. 51990 remains in storage at Strathspey as a spares donor for the Class 117 set. |
