Preservation Information
55620 was preserved as a complete set with partner 55570. Unlike first generation railcars, Class 142 units generally operated in their as-built formations their whole working lives, 55620 &55570 are more commonly known by their set number: 142029.

142029 was the third Class 142 to be preserved (in 2019). It was purchased by the Chasewater Railway who had been without a DMU, working under its own power at least, for over ten years. Of the 96 sets built, 142029 was one of five sets that made it through to withdrawal with the least number of internal modifications or refurbishment work, making it a particularly "original" candidate for preservation. Its last home was at Newton Heath (Manchester) under Northern Rail before preservation and movement to the Chasewater Railway in December 2019.

142029 is currently fully operational but has yet to operate any public services in preservation.

Future Plans
The Chasewater Railway have indicated that after a period of driver training, 142029 will be used on passenger services on their railway.
