Preservation Information After a brief spell at theSwindon & Cricklade Railway in the mid 1990's, 56317 embarked on a 12 year journey to the Great Yeldham Transport Museum where it was held in private ownership at a series of non public locations including two MOD sites at Long Marston and Shoeburyness. During this time the vehicle spent periods both in storage and under restoration. However little progress was made and by 2008 it had deteriorated in condition. The future appeared brighter for 56317 when in a surprise move it was stored undercover at the Great Yeldham Transport Museum in Essex for restoration to passenger carrying condition. The new owners had ambitious plans to return the vehicle to service. However four years later no progress had been made and 56317 was sold following a storage charge dispute, moving first to a haulage yard in 2012 while proceedings continued and then in 2013 to the Whitwell & Reepham Railway where the vehicle continued to be stored. This sorry process began yet again in 2015 with the vehicle moved to Allelys Haulageyard while further disputes progressed. By this time 56317 was in completely derelict condition, its bodywork severely wasted and many components either missing, stolen, or damaged beyond repair. 56317 was finally disposed of in the autumn of 2016 and was moved to EMR's Kingsbury scrapyard and cut up. The vehicle was relatively rare and after its demise only two Class 100 Driving Trailer vehicles remained in preservation. |
