Preservation Information
51565 was preserved with partner 50928 in 1992 by Bradford Metroploitan Council, who based it on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway.

51565 was quickly repainted into green with half yellow panel and the original two character headcode box was returned to the front end.

51565 then saw 20 years of extensive use and proved a most valuable asset to the railway. It saw frequent use all year round and was never been withdrawn from traffic for major repairs.

In 2007 the railway recognised the need to overhaul 51565 in the near future. This lead to the aquisition of a Class 101 set, which the railway restored to relieve the vehicle of its duties.

It was to be 2013 however before the Class 101 was reliably operating services, following which 51565 was finally withdrawn from traffic for a full overhaul.

In September 2015 the overhaul of 51565 was started with a bogie rebuild being the first task. This was progressed well at Ingrow, however further work on the vehicle was not undertaken, the focus instead being put onto partner 50928.

In 2020 the vehicle was used as a Covid-19 mess room for staff at Haworth. It was later returned to store.

Future Plans
The railway plan to fully overhaul 51565, and partner 50928, following which the unit can return to service to share duties with the Class 101. 4-car formations are also intended during busier times.
