Class 118 (1 vehicle)

The Class 118 (in common with the Class 117) was basically the British Railways Class 116 design sub-contracted to a private builder, in this case the Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Company (BRCW) in 1960. Fifteen three cars sets were built for suburban traffic on the Western Region.

Many of the sets ended their working lives in Birmingham, including the now unique 51321. Only one member of the Class made it into preservation, with most other vehicles being cut up during the 1980’s and 1990’s. However being almost a copy of the Class 116, the lack of a full 3-car set in preservation is not seen as a major loss.

The sole survivor, DMS 51321, is preserved in good condition at the Battlefield Line, where it is paired with a Class 116 DMBS to make up a set.
