Plym Valley Railway

The Plym Valley Railway runs 1 1/2 miles from Marsh Mills to Plym Bridge.

From 1995 the railway operated a 2-car Class 117 set on some off peak services. At other times it was used as hauled stock, usally by an industrial steam locomotive. However in common with many other smaller railways volunteers were unable to keep the unit in service and by the mid 2010's the Class 117 unit had fallen out of service, repalced by Mark 2 coaches.

In 2021 a new chapter started for the railway in the form of second generation traction, with a Class 142 set being secured for the railway. It was joined the following year by a Class 143 for company! The two second generation sets now operate all DMU services, the Class 117 never returning to traffic. It has however had some work completed on it and a return to service in the future is planned.
